Michael Millender is an attorney and a partner at Tonkon Torp LLP. Before joining the Foundation Board, he served for many years on the Boards of Cedar Sinai Park and Jewish Family & Child Service. Michael’s commitment to Jewish community service was instilled in him by his parents and grandparents, his Jewish day school education in Atlanta, and his many summers at Camp Ramah in New England. When the Cedar Sinai Park Board began considering strategic alternatives in 2023, Michael led a committee that explored how foundations in Jewish communities across the country are addressing seniors’ needs and whether a similar foundation could be successful in Portland. He is honored to serve as the Foundation’s Board President as it embarks on its expanded mission of supporting Portland’s Jewish elders. Michael and his wife, Ellen, a professor at Reed College, are members of Congregation Shaarie Torah. Their daughters, Sarah and Abby, are alumni of Portland Jewish Academy and the Oregon Jewish Youth Foundation.
