August 7, 2025

Sonia Marie LeikamThe Robison Foundation for Jewish Elders is pleased to announce the appointment of Sonia Marie Leikam as its first Executive Director, effective August 18. In this new leadership role, Leikam will shape the Foundation’s strategic vision and build the infrastructure needed to sustain its mission for generations to come. Sonia Marie brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, program development, and fundraising. As Executive Director, she will guide the Foundation in awarding grants that enrich the lives of elders in the Greater Portland Jewish community—focusing on their social, spiritual, and physical well-being.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sonia Marie to the Robison Foundation for Jewish Elders,” said Michael Millender, Chair of the Board. “Her deep commitment to community, proven leadership, and strong understanding of foundation operations make her the ideal person to lead us into the future.”

Most recently, Leikam served as Vice President of Outreach at the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation (OJCF), where she built relationships with prospective fundholders and supported the acquisition of diverse charitable gifts. Since 2007, she has been a dedicated advocate for nonprofits in both the Jewish and broader Portland communities. She is especially passionate about person-centered programs and partnerships that strengthen community ties and preserve Jewish values.

The Foundation recently completed its inaugural grant cycle, awarding $20,000 in “ChikChok” (fast-track) small grants. It plans to distribute a total of $400,000 in grants in 2025, supporting initiatives that uplift and connect Jewish elders. As both a philanthropic engine and a community convener, the Foundation envisions a future where every elder is cherished, supported, and meaningfully engaged.

“This is more than just a job—it’s a sacred responsibility,” said Leikam. “I’m honored to help lay the foundation—literally and figuratively—for an organization dedicated to honoring our elders. Together with the board and community, I look forward to advancing our mission and expanding our impact in the years ahead.”
