Elder Advisory Council

The Elder Advisory Council is composed of older adults who convene on a quarterly basis to offer guidance, insights and recommendations to the Foundation regarding matters impacting seniors and the wider community. These regular meetings ensure that the perspectives and lived experiences of older adults directly inform organizational decision-making and strategic planning. Operating in an advisory role, the Council highlights emerging issues, evaluates current needs, and proposes strategies to enhance foundation-funded programs and community outreach. Additionally, these sessions serve as a forum for members to collaborate, address key priorities, and advise leadership on senior welfare.

In addition to quarterly sessions, Council members are invited to engage in various initiatives that integrate older adult perspectives into the Foundation’s operations. Depending on their interests, availability and expertise, members may participate in site visits to community programs, share insights on localized needs, review potential funding proposals, facilitate connections with community leaders, or join informal listening and outreach efforts. Core focus areas may include addressing food insecurity, improving transportation access, and supporting local Jewish older adults in remaining independent, engaged and culturally connected within their Portland neighborhoods.
